Indians’ obsession with chaat knows no bounds. From Papdi chaat to Aloo chaat, Dhokla Chaat to even Golgappa chaat we love making a chaat out of anything and everything! There are street food stalls and eateries popping up at every corner of the country, thus proving its growing popularity. One street food vendor, however, decided to do things differently. A 22-year-old boy from Patiala is selling Chaat in a stall in Mohali. The reason he is grabbing eyeballs and what makes his outlet unique is the fact that he serves food while wearing a business suit!
Manjinder Singh hails from Patiala and has studied hotel management previously. Employment opportunities were there, however, he decided to start the Chaat business with his brother. The duo managed to collect their savings and invested a sum of Rs. 2.5 lakhs into the business in Mohali. ‘I Love Punjab’ is the name of their stall near Gurudwara Singh Sabha in Phase 11.
Their story was first covered by food blogger Harry Uppal and has raked in over 5 lakh views on YouTube. His idea of carrying off the business suit is simply to pay a tribute to his education as a hospitality student.
The Singh brother duo sell a variety of Chaat items at their stall – Golgappa chaat, Bhalla Papdi, Papdi Chaat and even Aloo Tikki Chaat. The Aloo Tikki is fried in pure Desi Ghee on a copper Tawa ordered specially from Lucknow. They are also serving summer drinks such as an array of Mojitos in different flavours. All the items are prepared fresh daily and they have a crew of 3-4 people helping them out. The 22-year-old says that his family is not aware of his business yet.
As for his future plans, Manjinder reveals that they have purchased a shop nearby and plan to shift the business there soon. He also says he will invite his parents for the opening ceremony!
