Kitchen Tips: The Most Effective Way To Keep Mushrooms Fresh For Longer

Mushrooms are one of those vegetables that have a distinct texture and flavour and can be prepared in various ways. You cook them in a lip-smacking curry along with some green peas, use it as a pizza topping or just saute them, mushrooms always taste good. Due to their unique taste, mushrooms are often added to soups, pasta, and even biryani, making these dishes even more delicious. Many of us prefer to relish homemade mushroom dishes by giving it our own touch. But, while the process to make mushroom may be widely known, storing these vegetables can be quite tricky.

You must have bought mushrooms in those small plastic containers or bags. They tend to remain fresh for one or two days but after that, the mushrooms start to spoil. When you notice dark spots on the mushrooms or when they turn slimy or wrinkly, then it’s an indication that they may not be that great to eat. Storing them in the refrigerator is a common way to slightly extend the life of mushrooms or any other vegetable. While this method is effective, it only helps to some extent.

The chef, in an Instagram Reel, says that mushrooms have high water content due to which their shelf life is short. In order to keep them tender and crunchy, first take an air-tight container and line it using some tissue paper. This, according to the chef, will make the mushrooms last longer as the tissue papers will soak in the water. In the next step, place some tissue paper on top of the mushrooms, close the container properly, and just store them in the refrigerator.

The chef says that this method can extend the shelf life of mushrooms by up to one week. So, now you don’t have to worry about your mushrooms going bad and can easily make some scrumptious dishes even after a week.
